É inegável o impacto da morte de Michael Jackson no mercado musical. De acordo com a Billboard, somente na semana passada foram vendidas 422 mil cópias dos CDs de Michael nos Estados Unidos, representando 40% a mais que toda a venda acumulada de seus discos em 2009. Na Internet, o crescimento também foi grande, com 2,3 milhões de músicas vendidas em sites como iTunes e similares.

A loja virtual da Nokia também apresentou números expressivos. Os usuários do celular Nokia 5800 Comes With Music podem baixar músicas de graça durante o período de um ano, e fizeram a festa com downloads do Rei do Pop. Entre os dez hits mais baixados da semana, seis são do artista, incluindo a primeira posição, com “Beat It”, de 1982.
